I have recently been editing DVD files and making DVD Mpeg2 video clips from them. The file extensions are known as .VOB. These play on the general DVD software players. I have also been able to incorporate a DVD file in "Insert Movie" in PowerPoint '97. This plays spontaneously as part of a PowerPoint presentarion. The computer which allows this to happen happens to be one of our conference room presentation computers and its a recently purchased 2 GHz Dell. The software on this computer is. Office '97, Win DVD4 Quick time vs6, Win media player vs7, MS 2000 operating system sevice pack 2, DirextX8.1

My problem is that if I mimic this software on another computer of similar speed and spec. I cannot get Powerpoint to even insert the movie and those that have previously had the movies inserted in powerpoint presentations on the conference room computer will not play either.

So, does anyone know how I can get DVD's to play within PowerPoint presentations without it just happening for me with just luck for this one computer?

Thanks for any reply on this matter as I think that it will be a growing problem for the inclusion of better quality video in Powerpoint presentations.

I have the answer to your problem i have the same programs. and i have found if you put the movie and the powerpoint presentation in the same folder and name that folder you will have to go in and make the powervpoint open to that folder and it should work for you. You have to do the same thing with music or any other program you want to link to your powerpoint. you can also link your powerpoint to a web page , that is what i am working on now.

2000/XP Solution

Powerpoint 97 can play vob extension files by doing the following.

1. Copy the .vob extension file to the harddrive location in which you wish to play it from. 2. Right click on the .vob file. 3. Choose "Open With" 4. Select the DVD Software player (example: WinDVD) 5. Check the "Always use this program to open these files" 6. In Powerpoint 97/2000/XP, choose the Insert Menu 7. Select "Movies and Sound" 8. Choose "Movie from file" 9. Select the .vob movie file and click OK 10. Resize the Movie box to the perferred playing size, or leave the default 11. Right click on the Movie window and select "Custom Animation" 12. Choose "Timing" tab, click the "Animate" radio button and choose the preference of "On mouse click" or "Automatically" and choose the delay time if "Automatically" is selected.
