My thoughts on Disney's latest animated megapic:Apart from a clumsily written happy ending, I really enjoyed this one. It tackles themes of moral predestination (as in Minority Report), draconian law enforcement (likewise), and the grey areas between good and evil -- all within a PG, family-oriented film. There were no heroes or villians, only conflicts of interest, which I've never seen in anything Disney before. Characters were beautifully drawn and animated, and some of the gags were truly inventive. Yeah, the humor is childish, but in a good way (like the Ghibli films)... Stitch rolling around, climbing, breaking objects, intimidating animals... good, good stuff that doesn't need embellishment. And Lilo -- whoa. As a kid, and still to this day, I get into situations that I know are wrong, but feel I have to play out. With her fighting and outlandish stories, she illustrates that aspect of young life so well. Broken, but still good.
