Latin Name: Iris versicolor

Alternate Names: Flag Lily, Wild Iris, Fleur-de-lis, Snake Lilly

Family: IRIDACEAE

Parts Used: Dried rhizome.

Properties: Alterative, Anti-inflammatory, Cathartic, Cholagogue, Diuretic, Emetic, Glandular Tonic, Laxative, Purgative, Sialagogue, Stimulant.

Internal Uses: Acne, Cancer, Catarrh, Constipation, Eczema, Obesity, Psoriasis

Internal Applications: Tea, Tincture, capsules

It is effective against constipation due to liver problems. Blue Flag improves skin conditions by improving liver function, and it also helps clean the blood.

Topical Uses: Bruises, Skin Diseases, Staphylococcus

Topical Applications: Use a wash of leaves and roots for bruises, staph infection and skin diseases.

Energetics: Pungent, Cool, Dry.

Chemical Constituents: Essential oil (furfural), iridin, glycoside, salicylic acid, gum, resin, tannins.

Contraindications: Use only dry root. Fresh plant may cause dermatitis. Use only small amounts. Avoid in cases of liver inflammation. Large doses may cause nausea and facial neuralgia.
