In Canadian Code, does the platform of a dumbwaiter have to have its own enclosure, or is the caging surrounding it (but not attached to it) that acts as the hoistway enough?

the only opinion which matters on this question is the opinion of the elevator code enforcing authority having juristiction in your area (or in the area where the d.w. is installed). I would consult them.

Code Problems

The Code is very unclear on the subject of dumbwaiters, and the only people who can answer the question want a written request to which they will only respond after meeting with a council every 2 months. Unfortunately, I need an answer before that... Anyone have one for me?

In the B44-00 code a dumbwaiter requires an enclosure. sec 7.2.1.1 I dont think that I would want one without an enclosure in the case that something falls over and jambs. Is this in a priv res and where in canada are you?

I should mention that if it is in a priv res you can do what you want. However safety is not something to shortcut, ever. Children have no idea how dangerous things can be.
