Patty, I'm finding that I am enjoying getting ornery lately, feels sort of good! I have been an even tempered person all my life and one of those that people will say, Oh it's okay, it's just Susan, she won't mind. Well, that doesn't leave you much of an option so you sort of nod and say yea well! Now, and it must be the menopausal thing, I'm really enjoying saying, whoa wait a minute, I do mind and it really bothers me.As my mother always said, don't ever apologize for your emotions.
-- Susan in MN (nanaboo@apulbunyan.net), June 11, 2002.
Interesting thought...I guess I wouldn't apologize for experiencing emotions, per say...but certainly how I might react to them. For instance, I recently said to someone, "I'm sorry, but I'm really angry and upset about this, and I realize this isn't your problem, it's mine." All the same I WAS angry, and it was obvious....so I thought an apology/explaination/acknowledgment was in order. I really didn't have any "right" to be that upset... but again, I guess that is the point your mother was trying to make. We don't always choose how we feel about things.....
I wonder how much intellectual "control" a person can achieve over their emotions? What is that saying, "thoughts are things". I suppose it's about balance, just like everything else. Seems like life would be pretty bland if we couldn't get whisked away every so often. Of course too much control has never been my personal problem!
SORRY about rambling...I was FEELING, introspective. (My choice this time, I do believe) lol *wink wink* *nudge nudge*
certainly I would apologize if I "let" those emotion get the best of me, and I acted rashly.
