What do you think unfluenced EAP to write how he did?

His schooling, contemporary Romanticism(Shelley, Byron, Coleridge, Moore, etc.)and his perosnal experience and temperament. Add that to the demands for Gothic pulp, a real American literature, his reaction against long, pompous, mediocre and didactic writing imitating the British(or overreacting by unrealistically praising medicocre native writers)his love of new science, exploration, mystery and puzzles. etc.
