Just finished reading a good book about the transformation that has taken place in Armstrong's "Worldwide Church of God." A must reading for people who teach and/or are interested in the history of cults.

It is AMAZING....how similar their approach is to the Restoration Movement. They even say many of the same things we do.

I think you will find it interesting and encouraging.

Hi Danny,

I plan to get the book -- sounds really interesting. That is the only cult I am aware of that went orthodox. Do you know of any others?

Also, I imagine you're aware of the Church of God (Anderson, IN). I've read one of their history texts -- the similarities with the RM are amazing. Doctrinally, the main differences I can see have to do with baptism (Immersion, but not necessary), foot washing, and women preachers.

Another on the same subject: TRANSFORMED BY TRUTH by Joseph Tkach, JR. Multnomah Books, Sisters, OR.

He is the current "head honcho" of the denom. His father was Herbert's pick for successer, and was the one who preached the famous Christmas Eve sermon some years ago that started the move away from WCoG theology and Armstrongism, and on towards more biblical theology.

I have a couple of friends in the WWCoG ... they are very orthodox and very committed believers.

I believe the Church of God (Anderson, IN) is a spinoff of the Mormon church, but I'm not certain. There are dozens of little offshoots in the midwest. Many very orthodox (except for most believe in the Book of Mormon).
