Where to Meet???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Now we have three (3) places to meet.......where is the number one choice? I don't see that many people posting. Is everyone confussed as where to go. Seems like we were just getting settled on the Homesteadtoday with Chuck.

I really apologize for the confusion. This has been a nightmare for us all. I want to make it very clear that I will do whatever it takes to get Homesteadingtoday.com back up and running smoothly. I just received some news that gives me hope we may be able to retrieve the data that was lost in the crash.

I would estimate that in 48 hours, homesteadingtoday.com will be back up and completely operational. In the meantime, it IS up on the "backup site" at http://homestead.mission4me.com People are posting there, and although it may be difficult to stay logged in, I feel confident that the confusion will have subsided in a day or two.

I left the MSN site up, mostly for people to post pictures. I left a note there that this site was open again. I intend to leave it open now, and hope that we will have no troubles!! I will keep you all updated with information about the homesteading site whenever I hear anything at ll. You are all free to post wherever you feel most comfortable.

I would hope we can stay here until a simular site is found. The second site is too complicated and requires too many motions to post. The latest posts format is not sequinical or equiped with archives. Maybe we can get Mr. Greenspun to write us a program with this sites features and a bit of control more added for the moderator.

I liked the new site better myself..last night I went to MSN, but nobody was home LOL....I don't think I'll visit here much...folks are too crabby on Lusenet.. I'm just getting uncrabby myself and do NOT need it at all...good luck and God bless.

The new site is a bit more work but delivers a lot more too. if you actually count key strokes it's less in the new format (assuming you frequent more than one board) This is a sever problem unrelated to the software used on that server. I'm sure Chuck will find a new server to host the homesteadingtoday.com software and name. I just hope he picks one that can offer fast service and a stable modern hardware platform. One with a surge protector this time please! LOL

I like it here, Melissa! :-) I don't think I'll be going back to Chuck's sites. Thanks for reopening this forum!

I like it here, but I tried so hard to like it there. This is simple, easy and that is what I strive for in my life: Making things EASY. I come here for conversation, ideas and answers. The bells and whistles were cute but do we really NEED them? It reminds me of growing up on a farm, then trying to live a "city life". I realized (only took me 20 yrs) that farm livin, simple and quiet, is the life for me! I will visit both sites, but my heart is here!

Personally, I can go either way. The simplicity of this site is appealing . . . the frequent server problems are not.

The other site really isn't so difficult once you get the hang of it. I actually like how it moves subjects to the top when someone posts--it's easy to see at a glance what's active.

Ultimately, it's not really the physical features of the site itself but the people who go there. :-)

I, like my good friend cheryl, like it here.

Hey Kristen!!! What's up!! Give us an update when you get a chance.

I personally liked the new site best, once I got used to it. I liked knowing how many people read each post and who had answered last, etc. I liked the little smileys, too:o). I like this site next best, and the msn site least.

Hi All - Thank goodness this site is up and running. I could not use the new site for the life of me. Lets just hope this one stays the way it is and no one trys to undermind it. I really enjoy visting the site and the people. I have been very busy doing river workshops and river monitoring. Take care I enjoy all the people that post. The sun is shining here in NE Oh for a change. We have had so much rain. We battled a flooded basement , pluged drain and mud for two weeks. So far I do believe it is solved. The last storm the basement was dry. Take call all must get to work. Billie NE Ohio

I do miss the little smiley faces!!! But we should be able to post on the new site soon. I think he mentioned by Thursday. You are all free to post there now, but I am not just to save some work and confusion...

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), May 29, 2002.

I really don't think that the new site is that hard to navigate. If this ol' grandma can do it, anyone can! For me, it isn't a problem where we "meet". Just so we find each other. IMHO, I agree with Leslie in the it seems that the posts on Lucenet are crabby and I can't understand why.
