Does anyone have plans for a small homemade chicken plucker?

Hey Steve! I don't have the plans but I know how they're built. Simple design and purty cheep to build I beleive. Usin two Pillow Blocks and a shaft of the same diameter---however long ya'll wanna make it. The ones I've seen had two "defeather-er-ers" ---one on each end. The shaft was about 4 feet long with a shive in the center of the shaft. Belted to an electric motor [1/3 hp] and turned at about 550-to 600 rpm. The motor used was a 1150 rpm and the shive sizes were used to slow the shaft down. About half speed is plenty fast but it can be slowed down even more.

The "de-feather-er-ers" they used were small straps of leather [1" wide by 5" long] that were screwed to a wood circle which were secured to each end of the shaft. Guess I could make one and take pictures of it but I'm kinda lazy today! OR----I could draw a picture of't, scan and email to ya'll.

Chick'n'n noodles! Don't sound too bad today. Just got if from mow'n and quit cause Mr. RAin showed up again!

grandpa used to use an engine bore polisher,,a cylinder with wire attached,, and metal "balls" on the ends of the wire,, attched to a drill,, the worn out polishers would get flat sided, adn would pull feathers out pretty good. BUt Ive learned just to skin the darn things, easier and faster,,ALOT

Stan, how do you skin a chicken? Immediately after killing?

suppose you could do it anytime you would normally pluck it,,I cut the head off,, the skin,, then clean it. comes off very easy,, and no feather flying around,, and the "feather soup" smell,, (cant stand that smell), I just pinch the neck skin,,slice,, get the knife under the skin,, and it should just peel away
