I may be stating old news but I wanted to share this information. The City of Myrtle Beach, SC is restoring the ex-ACL station. It's currently in well worn shape but the City has already purchased the property and is raising money for the project. They need $650,000 of which they've already raised $468,000. I collected this information over the phone May 14. They'll take monetary contributions in addition to the fact they're selling t-shirts, paintings, engraved pavers, etc. The station preservation group can be contacted at 434-918-1055, or you can go to their website at www.cityofmyrtlebeach.com and click on the link to the station project. This is another great opportunity for us to support an ACL/SAL restoration project.

The Myrtle Beach Depot will have its Grand Reopening Thursday May 6th 2004 at 12:00pm.This coincides with its original opening that occured May 6th 1937.The Depot has been originally restored to its original colors from 1937 both inside and out thanks to Buddy Hills assistance.The building has also been placed on the National historic Register. Carolina Southern Railroad will run three free passenger trains that day from the depot across the Intracoastal waterway and back.There will be also numerous speakers and activities which will go on to 5pm. The All Aboard Committee just got the Myrtle Beach depot placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings.As a fund raiser, train rides will take place from that depot on

Saturday October 12 2002.the cost is $5.00 per person.There will be four rides that by Carolina Southern Railroad. Paul, Thanks for the update. The society was contacted several months ago about this restoration project and supplied the City of Myrtle Beach with all the information we had. We previously helped Moncks Corner SC and are currently helping Pinewood, SC with their depot restoration. Buddy
