There are three initials included in the Historical Statement as printed in the "Doctine and Discipline of the African Methodist Episcopal Church", J.M.C., J.S., and S.R..

I have been asked this question concerning those initials. The Qustion: "Why was the full names of these three elders not included in this statement and who are they?

This historical note is a direct quote from Richard Allen's autobiography, The Life, Experience, and Gospel Labours of the Rt. Rev. Richard Allen.

While it may be possible that he chose not to reveal the names, his own note in the preface suggests that although he could well document the events, the passage of time left him unable to recall some names and dates. Thus, today we would be unable to do so without a great deal of extensive research.
