A good middle class elementary schooling. Like many prosperous, cultured families, Poe's guardians sent him to England for a stint. Then he entered college then West Point for incomplete stays. His elf-education must have been considerable but the breadth of British arts and West Point sciences really anchored his foundation and twin interests in poetry and new science.
