How did Poe's life affect his writings?greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread |
I need to know how events throughout Poe's life affected his Gothic style of writings. For example, his health. Did he write about people he knew about??

Well in some parts you might say he did write about the people he knew. Thats normal. If you look inside his writing you would see that he writes a lot about his loss of love. I've heard that he used to write a lot about his wife after she died and even during her sickness. Every writer knows that you write what you know. I think its very true that his life has thoroughly affected his writing.

Poe's life was very interesting and that is why I also think his writings are interesting. Poe was affected with all the people he lost in his life for example his mother his father his wives and many other women in his life that were important to him. After all the losses people also say that he started to have psycological problems and that's when his detective stories were brought about.
