Incubating Turkey Eggsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
We have a hove-bator incubater and should be recieving some eggs in about 3 days. How big are bourbon red turkey eggs? Do I need special egg turners or will the ones i use for chickens do? thanks Liz

The chicken egg racks should be fine. They were in mine. The eggs just sit higher than chicken eggs. I've had some Bourbon eggs that were just a little bigger than hen eggs and some that were quite a bit bigger, but they all worked in the rack.

Hova-Bator turners are different from Little Giant turners, but just so you know, LG turners are not meant for larger eggs and can stall out trying to turn them. You will probably have no trouble with the Hova-Bator turner, but you might want to keep an eye on it. Turkey eggs vary in size just like chicken eggs do. I've seen them not much larger than very large chicken eggs, and ones that are a great deal bigger. I weighed some this year and they ran from 65 grams to over 90 grams. If you do experience trouble with a styrofoam incubator it's really easy to turn the eggs by just rocking the incubator back and forth on a small piece of two x four. You don't have to open it and let heat out, and it's really fast to do an incubator full of eggs.
