Our son's Famous Parents!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread |
Our youngest son called us from Philadelphia last night! It seems as if we are the talk of Drexel University now..LOL...A group of kids had gathered in one of the dorm halls to watch a re-run of the PBS show Frontier House yesterday and Mike and his girlfriend wandered in. Soon, the kids heard "Wow! Mike's Mom makes homemade bread twice a week." "Mike's Dad chops wood and even built a new barn for his neighbor without breathing hard (right)" "They have CHICKENS? COOL!".....Mike was laughing as he shared with us how more and more of the college kids came in to hear all about life on the Alabama homestead and how last year they had made homemade jam and jelly with me, how we have a cookstove that uses WOOD LOL, etc. etc. etc. etc...so it seems that at least for awhile, Mike's parents were the mini-celebrities of the campus.....they were so excited that Mike had to go get the pictures he took last year and said he was thrilled when the kids all oohed and ahhed over the chicken coop..what a riot!!!!! The BEST part was that the kids all voted us as "most likely to survive the Winter"..ha aha ha ha ha ha...it made my day!

Lesley, how cool! Is there any other way to live? I am so envious though of you having a wood stove. I would LOVE to have one but have no place to put one!

Just think Homesteading might become cool!!! You know when you have lived like this pretty much your whole life, you don't realize how many people have no experience with raising animals, gardening, canning, cooking from scratch etc...

Not having tv, we missed the Frontier house series-anybody have it on videotape? Anyway, my friend was telling me about it the other day and said she couldn't do that but she thought that I would do just fine!!!! I suppose this is a compliment-I took it as that anyway.
