Technical MS Access Help Needed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

My Missus is a bit of a techie in disguise and writes Access databases in her spare time. ie semi professional... that is she is very good and almost writes professionally but doesn't get paid for it.

She is working in MS Access 97 and wants to know if it is possible to set the Data Type Field Format to "e mail" in table design.

The list allows Text, Date, Hyperlink etc but no e mail.

She knows that if you type "mailto:" before the e mail address in each record it works but she wants to set this so that she does not need to type this on each record.

Any assistance will be gratefully received.

I have told her the intelligence of this BBS is so profound that you are bound to know....Please don't let me down.

Thanks

Don't know if this will help Bob, it's verbatim from an Access 2000 manual, so it may not be any good for Access 97.

'Attach a Database Object to an e-mail message.

In the database window, click the object you want to attach to an e- mail message.

Click the File menu, point to Send To, then click Mail Recipient (As Attachment).

Click the file format you want.

Click OK.

Log on to your e-mail system if necessary, and then type your message.

Access attaches the object to the message in the format you selected.'

Apparently, this sort of stuff is available 'through Visual Basic by means of the SendObject method of the DoCmd object', so looks like your Missus will need to get into Visual Basic, if she isn't already.
