Numver of AME Churches Per State/Province/Country and Per Episcopal Districtgreenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
Where can I find information on the total number of AME churches per Episcoapl District, and per each state in the U.S., each province in Canada, and each country in Africa, Europe and elsewhere? Such data should be readily available, but I can't find it on the web. Thanks much to anyone who can assist. CAB

Carol:The fastest and be most efficient way of doing this would be to contact the Episcopal offices of the nineteen districts. That may entail calling some Administrative assistants for overseas districts or taking a little bit more time and going to the back of your 2000 Discipline and request in writing what you need from the episcopal districts or by telephone. I am curious also like Rev. Denise Rogers of what purpose do you need this info?? Even though this is public information I don't think that it need to be on the web. Dr. Dickerson's office may have the information as well.

Thanks much to all who responded! My interest in the information was piqued as I was preparing a presentation for a Lay Organization Workshop at Oak Grove AMEC in Detroit. We were interested in knowing how many churches are in the 5th District, for example, which comprises 15 states (I believe) versus the number of churches in the one-state districts, such as Georgia and Alabama. Just general interest, nothing more. However, it still seems that the Church should have one office to which this data is fed annually, so that anyone who wants to know the numbers can receive it without having to engage in letter writing and/or phone calling. By the way, does anyone know the duties of the Commission on Statistics and Finance? The 2000 Discipline lists the names of those who serve on the Commission (p. 638) but includes nothing else about this body--at least, there's nothing listed in the index, as there is about other Connectional commissions. Maybe this is the body that compiles the numbers. Thanks again!

Hi, carol my church is in the "fantastically faithful" fifth district. And our annointed prelate and episcopal supervisor is Bishop John Bryant and Rev. Dr. Cecilia Bryant. Bishop Bryant is in charge of 14 states from Alaska to Missouri! Please go to the fifth district web page for his headquarters address and phone number. The Bryants are headquartered in L.A, California. Fifth district web address is www.ame-church.org Good luck and keep us posted!
