Homeade Pancakes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I used to make pancakes with the Bisquick. But now I would love to make them from scratch. Does anyone have any recieps they would be willing to share with me? I would also like to learn some tips on making better pancakes. Thank you, Trish

most cookbooks have about the same recipe, i've experimented with different flavored extracts (almond, orange, etc) instead of just vanilla, and they've gone over well, if you want i'll send you the recipe for pancakes i usually use, jsut email me.

Here is my "healthy" pancake recipe, and they are very good! 3 cups all-purpose flour (I used unbleached) 3 teaspoons baking soda

4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

2 cups whole wheat flour or oat flour (I used wheat)

1 cup 7 grain cereal (I didn't have this so I just used about 3/4 cup whole oats..)

1 cup cornmeal

4 tablespoons whaet germ

Mix until throughly blended, store in airtight container, if using whaet germ, keep in frig. I put mine in the freezer.

To use: Lightly beat one egg with 1/2 cup of yogurt, buttermilk, sour cream, or milk (Just one of these) Add 1/2 cup pancake mix.

1 egg

1 tsp. baking powder

pinch salt (you can leave this out)

1 T. sugar

1 cup flour

1 cup milk (you can use buttermilk, but need to add 1/2 tsp. baking soda with it)

Mix it up or shake it up. Cook in a hot griddle or skillet till edges bubble. Turn over and finish cooking.

From time to time I agree with Stan, this is one of those times. if you want to add a personal touch to brekkie, try tapping some Maple trees. By golly I bet you could dump in some corn meal to Bisquick you could claim it was an old family recipe. BQ's been around awhile ya know.

Whatever recipe you use, place a jar or two of flavored jelly to spread on top before pouring syrup. This way you can have apple flavored pancakes, grape flavored pancakes, etc. Taste Great!

I had always made plain pancakes and they were pretty good..until I found out I was diabetic. I found a recipe for pancakes that are good for you that actually taste better than the pancakes I used to make!

1 cup buttermilk or sour milk(add 1 tblsp lemon juice to regular milk)

1/2 cup rolled oats

2/3 cup bran...wheat or oat

1 egg

1/4 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 tsp sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, 3/4 tsp baking soda

Combine buttermilk, oats and bran in large mixing bowl. Let stand 5 minutes or so. Add egg and mix well. Mix together flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda then add to bran mixture. Mix just until moistened. Cook on hot lightly greased griddle. These are the tenderest best pancakes I've ever tasted.

Jiffy Mix Baking mix is my choice for "scratch" pancakes. It is also more cost efficient than Bisquik.

Isn't bisquick just flour, baking powder, salt & shortening? So easy & much cheaper to mix your own! I've made my own biscuit mix for lazy days - all I do is add milk, mix & bake.

Try adding a couple of grated apples and apple pie spice or cinn to the mix or bananas and nuts-my kids love their pancakes fixed this way!
