If you will count that Washington State use to be Oregon Territory and I was born in Oregon. We asked for the Military to transferr us to Northern Cal or Oregon, Well we got Seattle and we liked it up here. We knew when we retired from the service we wanted a farm and that's how we ended up in Central Wa. Farms were cheaper here and we love the people. We came here to visit a year before we moved here. So this is our home and now some of our kids have homes here.

-- Cabin Fever (cabinfever_mn@yahoo.com), April 15, 2002.
Raised in a rural area outside Seattle, Wa. Lived near Olympia awhile when first out on my own, lived in N.Dak. awhile, moved to Roseburg, OR, then back up to Seattle area for 10 years. Been here in OR ever since and will never leave if I have anything to say about it. I don't like the western half of the state, too much like the Seattle area (too metropolitan, too rainy), but I sure like it here. This is home.
-- Lenette (kigervixen@nospam.com), April 15, 2002.

Cabin fever, Do you live any where close to Pine Island Minn.? All my relatives live there. It"s no wonder you know about Lutefisk!!!!
-- Irene texas (tkorsborn@cs.com), April 15, 2002.
No, don't live anywheres close to Pine Island. In Minnesota, all you have to know is a bunch of "church basement dinner" Luteran women and you'll sooner or later become exposed to lutefisk! When I eat at one of the smorgasbrods or potlucks in the church basement, I prefer the hotdishes, dontchaknow.
-- Cabin Fever (cabinfever_mn@yahoo.com), April 15, 2002.
Right, Cabin Fever. I was raised near Seattle, but being brought up in a Lutheran church, I attended many a potluck and saw more than my share of lutefisk and lefse. (Altho I still like lefse today.)My dear departed MIL related to me her one attempt to fix lutefisk as a young housewife. She had married a good ol' Luteran, and the time eventually came when he requested lutefisk for dinner. She had no idea how to prepare it, so her husband gave her instructions. I'm certain he'd never fixed it himself but of course his mother had, so he figured it wasn't too hard. My MIL faithfully followed his instructions, and when they sat down to dinner, no one could eat it. They finally gave up and gave it to the dogs. Who wouldn't eat it. So they gave it to the cats....who wouldn't eat it either. Not even the chickens would touch it. My dh was a very young child at the time, but he still remembers that hard lump of lutefisk sitting out in the yard for months before it weathered away. It turned into a neighborhood joke. And my MIL never again attempted to fix lutefisk.

-- Sharon in NY (astyk@brandeis.edu), April 15, 2002.
Yes. Born in FL, raised in TX, have lived in IN, CO, WY, and FINALLY back home in the sunshine state for the past 6 yrs. Would someone be so kind as to tell me what the "lutefisk" (sp) is? Thanks!
-- juana (juana@simple-living.com), April 15, 2002.
Juana, lutefisk is cod that's been soaked in lye, then you cook it in butter. I think many of us like the butter better than the fish.:) It's got a rather jelly-like consistency. It's a Norwegian delicacy along with lefse(sort of a Norwegian tortilla made with potatoes) I spent 18 yrs in Wisconsin at the Minnesota border so saw my share of both at church suppers along with meatballs. Personally I like the meatballs better than the lutefisk. We've moved 29 times in our 28 yrs of marriage. Hubby is a computer consultant, we're from Michigan but have lived in 7 states, the longest was in WI but I'm now in KY. Blessings, Kathy
-- Kathy (beckoningwinds@yahoo.com), April 15, 2002.
No, I was born in California but only lived there 6 weeks then. My dad was Army so we also lived in Oregon, Missouri, Virginia, South Carolina, Alaska and France. He retired in Georgia and I've been here ever since. There were actually more moves than that looks like because several of these places we moved to several times. My husband, otoh, has lived here all his life.
-- Deena in GA (dsmj55@aol.com), April 15, 2002.
Fascinating answers to an intriguing question. Obviously, I don't even live in the same country where I was born. ;-)
-- Randal in Brazil (randal@rhyme.cjb.net), April 16, 2002.
No. I was born in Alabama. My dad was Army, so we moved lots when I was growing up. Never had any roots, just a tumbleweed. I've only moved about 49 times (just one to go!) in 49 years, so I gues Cindy has me beat! But sometimes in school we would hit 3 or 4 schools in a year. 8th grade it was 4 schools in 4 states. Started 8th in Al n ended up in AK. Have lots of good memories tho.
