A couple of years ago, I purchased a Montmorency(sour) and a Royal Ann(yellow sweet) cherry trees. I know the sour is self pollinating, and as a rule, the sweet need another sweet pollinator. I bought these from Bear Creek Nursery, and their catalogue said these will pollinate each other. They are still too young to bear, but I'm wondering if I should still plant another sweet cherry tree so I don't find out three years from now that the sweet I have will not be polllinated.

I, too,was sold a sweet and sour cherry tree. I was told then,that the sour would polinate the sweet and visa versa. My "garden Primer " book however ,states 2 sweet cherries must be grown together to act as polinators. The new variety "Lapin" is self polinating. I guess to be safe I would plant another sweeet one. I've been in the nursery business 30 years and this question comes up all the time. Sweet cherries will not pollinate sour cherries.
