What would be your spiritual theme song?greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
During the 70's and 80's if you heard a T.V theme song you knew instantly the name of the show. i.e Brady bunch, Hawaii 5'O etc. What would your spiritual theme song be. Think about the melody and the lyrics. Would it be slow, fast etc. I think mine would be "Joyful, joyful we adore thee" I love the lyrics and tempo. Wouldn't it be great if the choir started singing your theme song the moment you walked into church;-)

I have many but based on my previous post, to just choose one, I think it would be "The King Of Love My Shepherd Is".The words were penned by Henry W. Baker (1821-77). The original hymn tune was written by John B. Dykes. But there are several choral arrangements using verious composed tunes, each of which are lovely due to the beauty of the text.
The text--now in the public domain--weaves together Jesus' discourse on the "Good Shepherd" (John 10:1-30) and the familiar words of Psalm 23. However, it also draws upon many other Scriptural texts from Psalms to Revelation.
The words are as follows:
The King of love my shepherd is, Whose goodness faileth never. I nothing lack if I am His, And He is mine forever.
Where streams of living water flow, My ransomed soul He leadeth; And, where the verdant pastures grow, With food celestial feedeth.
Perverse and foolish, oft I strayed, But yet in love He sought me; And on His shoulder gently laid, And home, rejoicing, brought me.
In death's dark vale I fear no ill, With Thee, dear Lord, beside me; Thy rod and staff my comfort still, Thy cross before to guide me.
Thou spreadst a table in my sight; Thy unction grace bestoweth; And oh, what transport of delight From Thy pure chalice floweth!
And so through all the length of days, Thy goodness faileth never; Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise Within Thy house forever.

The words are simply beautiful. I know you said there are choral arrangements, but can it be adapted to one of the meters in the hymn book. I'm on my way home. I suppose I should just pull out my old keyboard and try and see. Huh? I've printed the words to take home with me so I can fiddle around with my key board. Then I'll try and find a choral arrangement after my fiddling doesn't do the words any justice. (smile)Blessings to all. Have a wonderful weekend.

Mine would have to be "At Calvary"Years I've spent in vanity and pride Caring not my Lord was crucified Knowing not it was for me He died At Calvary
Chorus Mercy there was great and grace was free Pardon there was multiplied to me There my burdened soul found liberty At Calvary

Just one? I have to have two. For the rocker, "Touching Heaven, Changing Earth" by Hillsong Australia. The slow song is REALLY good though. "Just Let Me Say", also by Hillsong. Just let me say how much I love you...Let me speak of your mercy and grace...Just let me live in the shadow of your beauty...let me see you face to face...And the earth will shake as your Word goes forth...And the heavens can tremble and fall...But let me say how much I love you...O my Saviour, my Lord and friend.
Just let me hear your finest whispers...As you gently call my name...And let me see your power and your glory...let me feel your Spirit's flame...Let me find you in the desert...'Til this sand is holy ground...and I am found completely surrendered...To you, my Lord and friend.
So let me say how much I love you...With all my heart I long for you...For I am caught in this passion of knowing...This endless love I've found in you...And the depth of grace, the forgiveness found...To be called a child of God...Just makes me say how much I love you...o my Saviour, my lord and friend...Just makes me say how much I love you...O my saviour, my Lord and friend.
