I'm trying to find out as much as I can about this particular breed of chickens - Dorking. FeatherSite has some good info (and pictures) on them and a few good links also.

So, right now, what I'm looking for is anyone who has first hand knowledge about the breed and it's availability. I'm would like to try and get a small flock going next spring - hopefully with chicks.

Not being familuar with this breed and did go into google, I found 420 referances and some address to pursue info. Just type "dorking chickens" into google search; their a very old breed that are egg and meat productive and have been around since ancient Rome.

My personal veiw point---I knew and help an old showman many years ago who had a small flock. They are a quiet bird with white skin and short legs and I believe a 5th tow. Lay nice white eggs and I can't remember if they are setters or not.

You would be able to find them in the Poultry Press Newspaper and the Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities all found at The Poultry Connection.

I considered them when we moved here, but was concerned about their great big comb in this cold. I'm wondering if that would be a problem where you are.
