I stopped in to my vet's farm yesterday, I had sharpened some shearing combs for them. They were both in the barn and called me in to see thier latest addition. Quintuplet lambs born to a Romanov ewe and a Texel ram. WOW!!!!! Far from being mice these were all good sized lively lambs, 3 ewes and two rams. Now I'd settled on 3 breeds, Dorset, Polypay and Rideau Arcott, mostly for my meat/milking plans; however I'm going to keep a close eye on this little project. Romanovs seem like decidedly average sheep, and Texel are of coarse the ultimate meat breed. If these lambs grow well and the ewe has a respectable lactation I might just try a few Romanov's bred to Polypay or one of my Canadian Arcott rams. (A breed I'm sadly moving out of) Anyone raise Romanov or percentage Romanov ewes? I'd like to hear your experinces.

Since we are moving next month, we are selling 3 Reg. Romanov ewes. They are bred to either the Dorper or Dorset ram. The Dorper ram is Reg. 3/4 Dorper 1/4 Polypay. He is from Crane Creek. You could try experimenting :)

Do they all drop so many lambs? I suppose your far far away from Eastern Ontario huh?

Yes, we are a few miles away in Indiana :) Our experience has been more triplets and quads. We've never had 5. They are very interesting sheep though. If we don't sell them, we will continue on with the Dorper/Romanov cross experiment. I've heard the babies will be black and white spotted. That means I will want to keep them all though :)Good luck!!
