Anyone from Coalmont Tennessee???greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Hi everyone!! I just love this forum!! Anyway, DH and I just pruchased 77 acers of land in Coalmont Tennessee and plan to sell out here(SC) and make the big move within the next year or so. I've waited for this all my adult life!! We're kind of nervous as we don't have any job prospects or anything. We really aren't sure what to do first before we move. We'll be starting from scratch with 3 children(all boys ages 14, 11, and 8) Everyone is excited about the move. We are moving away from family to a new state. Any one from that area with any advice? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks so much!! Michelle.......

Hey,You might want to look into opening a used furniture and appliance store. I opened one out of my barn and have since moved into town with the business. We go to yard sales and buy cheap and sell cheap to those whom can't afford the new stuff. We now have even started selling new way below the area big chain stores.
Just a thought for you.
Good luck,
Ben

And the stuff you buy used is usually better quality than what the chain stores sell. Don't forget to attend the local auctions for all your tool needs. It's a great place to meet and greet the locals.

Hi Michelle, congratulations on getting your land - you're on your way now!! Where is Coalmont in relationship to Nashville or Memphis? I live about 2hrs from Nashville & my husband lives 56 miles from Memphis(due to a job transfer) If there's anything we can do to help let us know, newspapers, information, etc. Best of Luck Kathy

Kathy, Coalmont is about 40 miles N-NW of Chattanooga its near Tracy City and Monteagle which is right off of I24. Its the middle of nowhere thats for sure! But thats what we wanted. There is a pond and a few creeks on the property. It has rolling hills!! It'll be a great place for us to bring the animals and the kids......We are going there in April to spend a few days. We'll stay in a hotel as there isn't anything there yet. ( I atleast need an outhouse or something.lol!!).........Thank you for your offer to help!! I'll keep everyone posted!

That's a great, beautiful area. I take my Boy Scout Troop to Skymont every few years- you might check it out for paid employment for the summer for your guys!!

Thanks for the advice. Since we married 12 years ago and honeymooned in Gatlinburg we've visited different parts of TN and now we're going to get to live there! We've homesteaded on a small scale on 2 acers of land (flat land!) so we're looking foward to the change. I do have a question, though, whats the winters like. We always go in the Fall or Spring. Am I in for a rude awakening or what. Here in SC the winters are mild. I grow broccoli and lettuce and collards all winter long. We're only about 100 mls. from Myrtle Beach. Hoping not to freeze!!! Michelle...
