We are putting the homestead up for sale in Norther PA and moving to SC to be with family...hopefully by next spring !! I spoke with a gentleman a while ago that lived near Lake Murray in SC. Maybe he would have some ideas for us on buying a place or renting for a year before buying that we would be interested in. OR anyone that has any ideas for us. We want to nearer family and 14 hours plus away isn't fun anymore. Would take our horses etc with us. Need the country!! Aren't rich but willing to look any anything that we could make into a homestead. Appreciate any help anyone can offer !! Thank You !!

Sounds exciting Helena! Can't help you find a new homestead but I wanted to wish you luck. Where are you in Pa? I'm just above Scranton.

Hi HelenaWhat part of South Carolina are you interested in. I have a co-worker who has a house on less than an acre in the Camden area that is available for rent.
The house is livable, but is in the re-modeling stage, and needs an oil tank to start the furnace. She said that any repairs that you did, she would take off of the rent.
If you need more info e-mail me.

Helena: Lake Murray is actually " owned " by SC Electric & Gas. Co., which dammed ( damned? ) the Saluda River in the '30's to provide hydroelectric power to Columbia & surrounding suburbs. ( The rural areas had to set up co-ops thru REA. ) Due to (sub)urban sprawl, thousands of acres & dozens of family farms have sold out to the developers, who happily put up expensive homes for the yuppies. If you want to avoid being swallowed up into another Atlanta-style suburban rat-race, forget Lake Murray.

Helena, as a SC resident I can tell you that the most affordable land that we have come across is in Patrick SC. Its off of Hwy 1 between Camden and Cheraw. Land is going for about $800 and $1000 an acer. I'm pretty sure thats Jefferson Co. I don't live too far from there and we've looked at some of the property. Michelle
