In the waitress photo I see a possibility of using a portion of the image, which I might prefer over using the whole shot. My eye is drawn to the effect of the window on the guy. It's perfectly lined up to make a kind of halo for him. My suggestion would be to draw a vertical line on either side of the window, and include only what is in between the two lines. Also crop just a little bit of the top off. Enlarge to 11X14. Now you have a strong, saint-like image of the guy, in vertical format. As for the corner of the room photo, I think I understand what you are aiming at-it seems you are showing the viewer the geometric shapes. I think this is a good idea, but it's a little too busy. If you could simplify it, by taking something away, I think it would be stronger. Thanks for posting them.

About the first pic: I like the shot, but it doesn't tell me anything without more detail from you. It isn't obvious either that she is a waitress- at least to me.

About the second shot: I LOOOOOVE the lighting and exposure. But the subject and style is not for me. I am not really into arty photos of still life. I prefer people and landscape. Overall this picture is successful in its own right.

Nicely printed :)

Hi Ivan, I like the sepia tones. 1) In the cafe: interesting expressions, but the two people need to be either closer together, or you need to get further back to show MORE surroundings - window "hot spot" is distracting, limbs look chopped off. Heads are tricky. They need to be about the same distance from the camera or one head can look huge and the other tiny. But closer is often better.

2) Nice patterns and contrasting tones, but bisected in the middle.

Good quality reproduction on photo.net - must try it!

Ivan, the waitress picture is more like a snapshot to me, but the sepia tone made me think twice, looked and appreciate the image. Regards,

Hi Ivan,

I usually don't comment on photographs posted for critique. But I must say I really like (can't say love around here) the first shot. The expresions draw me in. I want to be in on this conversation that is going on. Well Done.
