Anyone ever raised potatoes in tire stacks?greenspun.com : LUSENET : A Country Singletree : One Thread |
Got enough old tires to do four towers this season. The one stack I tried last season did pretty good so I decided to expand this season. Have ya'll tried this? Do you like it or not?

Yes, it works well, just be sure you let the top vines get sun and turn dark green before you put the next level on. Then in the fall, just kick 'em over.Dennis

My neighbor uses this method and gets good results. He plants usually in May and I must admit, I have been surprised by the amount of potatoes that are actually harvested.

I hope this isn't to stupid of a question but, do the tires have any chemicals or something that would contaminate the potatoes? I have read that you never should grow edible stuff in RR ties because of the chemicals. Thanks
