I haven't tried this, but my mom swears it works. Suck the insides out of an egg & fill it with red pepper. Would love to know if anyone has ever tried this & if it works. :-)

I have heard that if you hide a couple fake ones in with a few real ones and fill the fake ones with some really nasty stuff. It will help, maybe something that is just plain gross mustard and tabasko sauce(really hot) or something that will make him sick he might associate the eggs and being sick together.Good luck!! P.S does he eat the shell also? I had a dog that hunted out chocolate covered cherries and sometime later we would find a pile of cherries hidden under a table or something. Chocolate??? Must be a woman thing :) If he eats the shell there is a way to hollow out an egg and you could get a syringe and refill it, but if he leaves it you could probly use a plastic one.

Try a shock collar, if you have a freind or relation that has one it's cheaper than buying one. Just don't say anything to the dog when you shock him, let him think the egg is causing it. I shocked my border collie/australin shepard, off of chasing deer, chickens, etc. with one from Cabellas. Only took a couple of shocks to change her ways. It isn't much of a shock about like a spark plug it pulses the same way. I know I held it in my hand and shocked myself to see what it was like. Dumb I know, but I was curious.

Craig, may I add some humor? I tried filling an empty egg with very hot hot sauce and leaving it for the dog. Heard a scratching at the back door - it was the dog wanting to know where the tamales were that went with that hot sauce!

Actually, she did get the egg and other than some lip-licking and head-shaking, it didn't slow her down. What worked great was putting an electric fence around the chicken pen long enough for the dog to get into it once. It only took the one time - guess she thought the chickens got her for getting their eggs - she wouldn't even go near the chicken house again! Good luck!

Watch out that yours doesn't do what mine did.He figurd out that the eggs came from the chickens,not the nests.He was a bit too impatient and started to take the UNLAID eggs!!Never did get him to stop egg sucking or chicken killing.He lives with my Dad now! We tried the chicken around the neck thing but he was the only dog w/rotten chicken so he thought he was SPECIAL!!!Stupid dog.

The one time I had a problem with this I cured it by mixing up Coleman's dry mustard just like it says on the box and filling the egg with it. Used a bit of Elmer's as I recall to seal the hole.

I knew immediately when she ate the egg and she never touched another one again. Wouldn't even eat a cooked egg without giving it a good sniff first.

I had a Border Collie, that did this all his 15 years with us, until he died of an old age. We tried everything and nothing corrected him, the good thing out of that was, we were in Texas at that time and he also ate snake eggs. ANd he was very good finding them. But we had our laying hens nest away from his paws, the hens understood that, and now that we are older we kind of like to have the nest intalled so high so we don't have to bend over, the hens are used to this even when our dog passed away years ago, we kept it that way. we had a purebred chocolate lab once that ate eggs-stole them out of a hidden nest that didn't hatch-dad put a hot sauce egg in there with the rotten ones-ate them all, never did get sick, and would still steal an egg given the chance. some learn, some don't. preventing him from reaching the eggs seems your best shot.

I had a farm collie who was a persistant egg thief. He stole eggs from every nest except ours! He was shot with buckshot and rocksalt so many times, you couldn't open the lens on the camera without him him running to hide. But he never stopped stealing eggs, he just got more careful.

I put some well rotted eggs in my neighbor's nest. He stunk real bad and he was sick! It slowed him down for a week or so, but he went right back to it. Aside from that bad habit, he was still one of the best dogs I ever had. Yes, I did give away all my eggs to neighbors who always found themselves short on eggs.
