This was one of those electrifying moments in photography. I was on an extended vaction to California and happened upon this image. During the trip the roll of film was lost, only I did not know it was lost. I figued the image had not turned out. Then one day, under the car seat, I came accross a roll of film. I had it developed and I was pleased. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks all,
Rob Schopke

What's supposed to be special about it?

Very nice use of DOF. Just enough subject isolation IMHO. Exposure infomation? (At least lens 2 aperture???)

I'm sorry but I don't see what's so electrifying about it. Also the sloping horizon seems distracting. But this is just IMHO of course.

sometimes you have to spell out things: the story/experience per se is what makes the photo special.Rob, I enjoyed that photo, nice tone and contrast. I do agree that something lost and found, make it ever more sweet.
cheers, and keep track of those rolls.

Huh?

Rob:I enjoy it and envy teh subjects.
If I were a judge in a camera club competition, I would say it is a 7 out of 10, as the outcropping of land on the upper left conflicts or merges with the guy's head. Also, the Kayaker would have more impact if he occupied more of the right side of the frame. So go hire two models and reshoot it for Mitch's sake! :>) :>)
Much of the impact of a good print is lost on a small screen, so a really good print would snap it up a lot viewed live. Also, the shadow detail in the wet suit is muddy and lost. Most horizons I have seen are really horizontal, not 5 deg. up to the right: it looks awkward. In the words of that great moral philosopher Bill Clinton: " 80% of life is hangin' on".
keep snappin'

RobI don't get it at all! Sorry.

Mitch,What was electrifing and interesting was MY experience of taking the shot. Not your experience of viewing the shot.
I knew that the horizon looked tilted, what puzzles me is that when I lay the horizon flat the Kayaker appears to be slanted. Any thoughts.
