Selling Rabbits

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

What is the best way to sell some rabbits when you're out of room in the freezer? Also, I pay about $18 to build great big cage with six compartments. Is it ok to keep two males beside each other if they can't see each other? And can I make a profit selling rabbits since I don't pay much to keep them?

Where are you and what types of rabbits ? Do you want to sell as pets or meat ?

I don't care what I'm selling them for. They're not exactly small, but they're not big either. I'm guessing maybe 4-5 pounds. I'm in Wytheville, VA.

This Mississippi State Univ. Extension web site on Commercial Rabbit Production, http://msucares.com/pubs/pub1384.htm#disease outlines a number of things involved with raising rabbits and business considerations. Probably would want to update the feed and sale costs to make them more current for your area, then you could determine if raising rabbits would be worth while for you. Don't forget what your time is worth.

Hi Jessica, It's OK to keep the bucks side by side as long as there is a solid divider between them. Actually, I've kept them side by side with a wire divider between them, the only problem is they pee on each other.

I keep bucks side by side in cages...and never have any problems...it usally helps for them to be from the same litter but alot of mine aren't... Rabbits sell better as pets...and sometimes meat if there is a market...I have them for 4-H and have had them for a while now... JSON

I think its un human that you should bread these rabbits and not care what happens to them...... For pets GREAT, For food FINE as long as there killed quick and not in pain. What if a greyhound trainer came to buy some of your rabbits? Would you sell them to him or her? IF SO YOUR THE ONE THAT BELONGS IN A CAGE NOT THOSE SWEET LITTLE BUNNYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
