We, the Dean of Turner Theological Seminary at the ITC, extend to the family of Bishop Ming our love in this hour of loss. The Henry McNeal Turner Awards Service is something that allows us to recognize the contributions of many persons to the life of the church and the world at large. I am grateful that an all wise and loving God allowed Bishop Ming to remain in his position till the end. Thanks be to God that the church never removed him from the office he truly loved and served with dignity and honor to the very end. We have learned with shock, the passing away of our Bishop, Bishop Ming. We pray that the Heavely Father will comfort the Ming family during this time of sorrow. It is with a very heavy heart that I write these words of condolence this morning. Bishop Ming served as my Presiding Prelate in the Sixth Episcopal District for eight years and he was a blessing to me. I thank God for every memory I have of Bishop (and Mrs) Ming. I mourn with the family, as I am sure so many others do. God has promised to supply all of our needs and that includes comfort for all who experience sorrow. Let us walk in the promises of God. Let us take Him at His word and cast all our cares upon Him for He cares about us. We have suffered a great loss in the passing of our dear Bishop - however, God is still God and He is still blessing, even now. I pray for the family and loved ones of Bishop Ming and for the First Episcopal District in the passing of their Episcopal Leader. God cares for you. As someone who joined the African Methodist Episcopal Church during the time of Bishop Ming's administration, his family certainly meant a lot to me. Bishop and Mrs Ming took a real interest in me and presently I have not only sweet memories of them, but also many souvenirs and above all musical albums I received from them. As he served on our Board of Trustees, his contributions to the seminary community provided a clear vision and gentle reminder of our role as a servant to the education of AME past, present, and future generations of students, pastors, and Christian Educators. I met Bishop and First Lady Ming at the dedication service of a new church when he was Bishop in the 5th District; and I can honestly tell you that it will was an experience that I will never forget because he is truly a man of God. He was a Man of the Soil, a Man of Distinction and one who carried out his duties in an honourable fashion. We were deeply blessed to have him serve as the Presiding Prelate of the First Episcopal District of which Bermuda is an integral part. We at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church were privileged to host the Welcome Banquet for this most prominent Bermudian servant at the 115th Session of the Bermuda Annual Conference last March, 2001 when he had the privileged of addressing his family and fellow Bermudians. We were deeply overwhelmed and proud of his great achievements. Our Shepherd has fought a good fight, he has finished his course, he has kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteousness judge, shall give him at that day, and not to him only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
