We've been led to believe....even by some well meaning, yet uniformed people....that the motives of the NIV people in their "gender neutral Bible" are pure....and they are just trying to make the Bible more compatible and understandable to our times.

BULL!!!!

This "gender neutral" Bible is purely driven by political correctness (and thus money).

They are not just flirting with the false egalitarian view of the Bible....they are also....changing clear teachings of Scripture.

Case in point.....in the places were the Jews are directly condemned for crucifying Jesus......the new version of the NIV list...."the Jewish leaders" as the ones who crucified Jesus.

I have always disliked the N.I.V.....and this just further feeds the fire.

I'm happy to say I'm having a great deal of success in getting people to boycott the N.I.V. and turn to a far superior translation...i.e., the NASB.

I preach from the NIV. I really don't have that big of a problem with it. The new version (the TNIV) isn't something I will use, but I will probably buy one for reference's sake.

The thing I can't stand about the NASB only view is that it is just the same as the KJV only view just different titles.

The NASB has it's own problems, the NIV has more. I know this. I even point them out while teaching/preaching, but believe it or not...I have ran into a few places where the NIV won the award for the best translation. So what?

It is the Word of God...if people are absorbing it, it does good. Regardless of the translation (for the most part).

I've received my free copy of the TNIV but haven't had much chance to look it over. I'm wondering if you, or any of the others, have checked out the ESV? I think it is basically an update of the RSV. I've actually been using the NLT quite a bit, but still use the NIV as my main Bible.

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning as far as the TNIV making the NIV bad. Even if the TNIV stinks, how does that have any bearing on its predecessor?
