I now have the perfect homestead!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
We have been here 7 years. we have had all kinds of animals and all kinds of trials and errors. We know now what is best for us. We have a River out our front door for fishing and swimming. We have lots of woods for foraging and just walking in. we have abundant wild life. we have a garden thats just the right size for us to grow all the vegtables we can use. leghorn chickens for eggs. Silky Chickens for fun. Two beautiful goats to keep down the brush around the house. A donkey to protect the goats and also to eat brush. Three cats to keep the mice in check. one emu to entertain the grandchildren. and because I couldn't just let them shoot him! one dog that someone else dumped. Cant for the life of me figure that one out. You couldn't ask for a better behaved dog.She is rotweiler & lab mix but loves everyone. Even the vet. Now our family is complete. We just got two of the cutist Alpaca cria you have ever seen.Yes I have the perfect Homestead. The animals are food for the soul! I am content. All is right with my world! Thats the whole point isn't it?

Good for you Corky!! I don't think I'll ever get things just the way I want them but I'm working on it. You are absolutely right, happiness and contentment are the whole point.

Corky, How wonderful that your homestead is working out so wonderfully! Thank you so much for sharing it with us!!! We need others triumphs to help those of us still struggling!!!My four latest baby Angora bunnies are doing well and the 25 chickens are still laying. Trying to figure out where to build the goat/sheep fencing....

Thanks for bragging, Corky. Don't forget to take your humble pills tomorrow. And watch out so you don't step in all the manure piles you must have all over your yard!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, you must live right here with me? How do you do that and I can't see you? LOL Are you the one who hides my coffee when it disappears right after I pour it? Takes the book I was reading just after I put it down to go get the coffee? Moves my shoes....? LOL LQ

Right on Corky. I'm with you. Be here now. If people spent less time worrying about a future which might or might not happen. Dwelling on the past. All we have for sure is here and now. And ain't it grand. Just look around, what a bonus, spring is here. jz

Thank you for sharing, Corky! It's so nice to hear good news about people who are happy and content ~ counteracts all the bad news out there! While I read your post, I thought about my creeks, my horse, goats, chickens and dogs, the barn cats, big garden, greenhouse and plans to finish our house. Made me smile. Thank you!

That sounds so good Corky! Sometimes I forget to step back and enjoy the things I have accomplished instead of thinking about things I need to do. Thanks for the reminder, I'm gonna sit back today and enjoy!!

Sounds great I have always thought that if I ever name my homestead I will call it Neverdone as I have found that I always want to change something or add things. But I agree with several of the posts here that we need to enjoy what we already have.
