Home remedy for ailment?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread |
Hey ya'll I feel terrible and have for 3 days now. My throat is sore and I have a very rundown feeling. You know the way you feel when you have some sort of infection your body is fighting. I have no fever yet, but my nose is running and stuffy. I don't want to have to go to the doctor for several reasons including: 1)it seems the last few times I've gone I don't see a DR, I see a nurse practitioner. 2)I fear that DR's tend to prescribe meds to easily these days. Meaning last time the nurse practitioner said, "Well I think it's a cold, but here is an RX for Amoxicillin anyway. 3)I don't want to line the pockets of over paid physicians anymore than I have too. (I have issues about this!) ANYWAY. Can ya'll suggest some home or herbal remedies that might give me some relief. Thanks,
PoePoe

Frankly, I'd rather see a nurse practioner, but I know what you mean about amoxcillion and all that. If Leslie logs in follow her advice, in the meantime, mix up a hot toddy or hot lemonaide-I mean as hot as you can stand to drink. Lots o' lemon, a little honey, and here in Ky, we add a shot of good bourbon. Take some extra vitimin c, some e, and some echinachea if you have it. Drink the toddy fast and go to bed. Tomorrow, Get lots of liquids, and as much rest as you can. Hope you feel better soon!

I'd take echinecea, garlic, rose hips, ginger and lemon balm. I always feel better when I take lemon balm. The toddy sounds good unless you have a problem with alcohol or are allergic to it.

Might try a little natural cocoa or dark chocolate and let it melt and coat your throat, it also has a mild natural stimulate in it (threobromine) and Good homemade chicken soup.

When we start feeling crummy around here, I make garlic soup.1 onion, minced, 1 BULB garlic, minced. Simmer onion and garlic for 10 minutes in 1 cup water. Puree if you wish. Remove from heat, add 1 teaspoon veggie seasoning and beat in 1 egg. Drink this as hot as you can stand.
Then drink a big ol' glass of water, wrap up in the down comforter and go to sleep.
