You will find white and whole wheat recipes at:

http://www.countrylife.net

Look in the "Recipe Bin", use "search for recipe" for "tortilla.

Brenda, here's a flour tortilla recipe I like to use.

2 C. flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

1 Tbs lard

1/2 to 3/4 C warm water

Mix dry ingredients, add lard and mix til it looks like cornmeal. Add 1/2 C. warm water. Mix well and add more water (if needed) 1 Tbs at a time til the dough can be formed into a ball. Let the dough rest 15 minutes.

Divide into 12 portions and shape these into balls. On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball out into a 7 inch circle. Cook in a hot ungreased skillet about 1 1/2 minutes per side. Hope this helps!

Marie, I went to that site and could only find one recipe, but need to know if you can use whole wheat or some other grain that I could grind and use for the tortillas? I tried the recipe in Countryside and used whole wheat flour but wasn't happy with it, maybe it would have worked with unbleached? I am trying to get away from unbleached but don't know what grain to try instead for them? We love tortillas, but maybe will just have to be satisfied with half wheat/half unbleached? Does anyone else use any other grain combination? Thank you!
