I've recoreded a video CD on a CD_RW disc.It played on my DVD player perfectly. I've recorded the same material with the same recorder on a CD-R and the DVD fails playing the VCD. (IT stops after a few secs.The track length is also badly recognized)

I would apreciate your help.

Go to www.vcdhelp.com and look up your DVD player on the DVD player compatibility list. CD-R and CD-RW media support requires a 2nd laser beam dedicated simply to playing these discs and many players lack a 2nd beam to do this. CD-R and CD-RW discs reflect back at a different wavelength from commercial VCDs and the player's single beam can detect commercial VCDs. However, in a few cases, some single beam players have a beam with a slightly wider than normal tolerance and these players will sometimes play CD-RW discs and in a few rare circumstances will even play specific brands of CD-R discs. Should you have a Sony DVD player, Prime Peripherals brand CD-Rs (available in the USA at Office Max) are the only brand known to work on Sony players that don't officially support CD-R. Whatever your player is, it either doesn't support CD-R at all or it doesn't like the CD-R brand you are using. A few players with CD-R support have had problems with certain brands of CD-R media, so if your player is supposed to support it, try changing media brands.
