I was wondering what your favorite all around sock pattern is, and what type of yarn and needles you use. I just knitted my first sock and found it so interesting and amazing at how it makes no sense and then (almost like magic) it just turns into a sock! I don't like a bulky sock. I am looking for one more fitted like the kind we are all "use" to wearing, but thought I might be missing out on something better. What type of yarn do you all usually use? What size needles? Thanks for any help.

Check out socknitters.com, it has everything. I love to knit socks, but I usually knit heavy socks from homespun. Worsted weight and size 6 or size 8 needles, I think... I have to have it in my hands. I rib the tops and the tops of the foot and the rest is in stockinette. They are so warm! Have fun.

Patternworks (patternworks.com) has a great catalog that has yarns specifically for socks. They will send you a free catalog.

Try knitting a strand of elastic thread along with the yarn when doing the ribbing for the top , keeps the tops up great. Sally
