Adolf Sutro claimed the center of San Francisco to be the summit of Mt. Olympus. he put a statue of a Greek goddess at the peak. Does anyone know where the statue is now? And how or why he designated Mt. Olympus the center of our city?

Answers

The base of the statue is still there, with an inscription dated 1887, however the statue "Triumph of Light against Tyranny" was not so lucky; it was vandalized until in the early 1960ies the sad remains were taken down. More details at:
