My favorite goat is being renamed "Stinkerbell" I've had her for nearly a year and she almost constantly has a fowl odor around her face. She usually has a yellowish, greenish discharge from her nose, and a cough. Otherwise she is in good health, gives an adequate amount of milk. We've wormed her a couple of times, and the vet tried penicillan for 5 days. That kind of helped, but the smell and runny nose comes back. My other goats aren't bothered by the same symptoms. Same thing year round. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The smell from here face could be her breath,I would make a container of baking soda ready available at all times when mine get an upset stomach they hit the soda.It will keep their rumen in working order for their digestion.Also I would add apple cider vinegar to her water.I do this with my chickens also.Pam

So your child comes to you and has a runny nose, and stinking bad breath. Do you think your doctor would give them pen for 5 days? For a probable sinus infection? Perhaps look in the mouth to see if she has an abscessed tooth? Perhaps some polyops at the back of her throat? Perhaps CL and has abscess in her throat? Nothing penicillin would even touch. What you are describing is, in all probability, a serious sinus infection. This will need to be treated with antibiotics as it will not go away--at this stage--by itself. The odor you detect is the bacteria that's built up in the sinus cavities. If it were my goat, I'd have it treated as soon as possible. My cat had the same symptoms you described, and was treated with an injection, as well as oral medication.
