OK who is the owner of the oldest, drivable vehicle?? I doubt it is us! We had an 85 suburban, used gas like there was tomorrow. so we got a 95 van this summer, and Cale drives and 89 S-10, that has 159,000 miles on it!

Who has the most miles on their vehicle? What do you do to maintain it?

We have a 74 Ford pick up. We got it last summer and it had only a little over 68,000 miles on it. It beloned to a little old lady that lived where we did, she sold it and my husband saw it in the person's yard, he didn't know it belonged to Zelphie.

I dont see how that sweet little lady ever drove the thing, she barely reaches the floor when she stands up and it's hard to brake. She has a car now and still goes fishing by herself.

We always wanted a truck and God proved the best one.

Our 85 Olds has over 200,000 on it. Still a nice care though.

I don't want a new car or truck, I like the old ones best.

I have a 92 full size blazer with 179500 miles on it. Expensive to keep filled when your driving 100 miles/day but the gas is cheaper than car payments plus gas for a newer econonmy vehicle.

Well, we lose out on this one. I drive a '98 suburban (you know, the one I would sell if anyone would buy it!), and Lance drives the '95 extended cab chevy that I picked out for myself (used, not new).

Lance used to drive a 1983 chevy 3/4 with a 1 ton rear end and a 454 (want to talk about sucking gas?), but someone pulled out in front of him and totalled it last year! It was a wonderful work truck, much better than this little 1/2 ton thing he drives now. We are seriously thinking of selling it in favor of an older truck. The old trucks are so much better, they have real metal on them!

Hubby has a 1994 Gmc pu --Sonoma ----it had 205453 miles on it---last week- we just spend $5,000.00 on it----with a new motor & new tires--- -etc/etc/etc/-----ALL WORK DONE THAT IT NEEDED-- We had a Quick Lube in Andover, Ks. change the oil for us & they on removeing the oil plug--messed it up--& to make a really long story short---they wouldn't do anything about it----it started useing oil for the fisrt time--but of coarse it was leaking----the oil pan needed to be replaced--- We prayed about all the decisions & finally decided to invest the money in on the truck /we felt we knew about instead of buying another used one with high mileage & not knowing what we were getting- --we didn't want to buy a new one---more taxes & insurance---etc/etc/- -- hubby puts on over 200 miles a day to & from work /so they are all road miles!! They add up quick!! So we went for the new tires & new motor ---etc/etc/etc/--so we have an old truck /we will have to drive the wheels off of!!! I drive a 1970 V.W. bug that is BRIGHT orange!!!!!! Her name is "Just Ducky"----she is great----but the radio doesn't work/ so I have to sing a lot!!!!-- so if you see a bright orange bug headed at you--- beware /I might be inside singing off key!!!!! We also have the family car---newer & less miles----

Michael drives a 90 bonneville... It has 319,000 miles on it. He drives about 800 miles a week just going to and from work. It runs like a champ!! It is a BIG blessing from God. I drive an 86 Ford pick up with about 125,000 miles on it. It runs great too!!

1982 Dodge pickup truck, 145,000 miles on it, but it does run, and it was free ( from my father-in-law), and the 1990 Peterbilt has to be the high mileage winner at over 1,600,000 miles on the same truck and engine, it has 450 Detroit Diesel motor overhauled once already.

We own an '83 Hyundai, gotten for free. Great mpg, 130,000. Shakes at 70mph, though! From points a to b, that's all that matters...right?! The clutch cable snapped once, and the husband had a new one rigged in under 10 minutes from some spare cable he had. That was over a year ago.

We also have a '93 Toyota (140,000), which would run like a top if the husband didn't use it to play in the mudhole! The same goes for an old chevy truck 3/4 ton, single headlamp style.

My husband is a wrench monkey for fun, so all our vehicles are kept in prime running condition. He changes fluids religiously and checks everything thoroughly before going on longer trips (like camping). Our daily vehicles are a '96 chevy 3/4 t diesel, 299,000 miles on it, and a '94 blazer, 130,000 miles.

I bought a used 1986 Suburban, now has 273,000 miles, 3rd engine, 3rd tranny, 4th a/c unit. Oil changes EVERY 3,000 miles, 2 STP oil treatments in exchange for 1 quart of oil everytime, change air filter every other oil change.

Hi Melissia we have a 1972 chevy suburban. We call it the hoopty. It doesn't look that great but runs really good and get us to where we are going. I am not sure about the miles I know it is alot. My husband does his own maintence on it. Have a great week everyone.

I miss my Suburban!! It had so much space in it, and lots of power. If only they made them easier on gas, but when it was costing $40 to fill it up, we just couldn't afford it anymore.

Hey folks! WEll, I don't have any old dudes to drive cept'n my old 78 Chev 4 wheel pull---a propane burner. However---for all ya'll that have gas guzzlers with carburators why not tinker with that carb some and increase the mpg? Don't know how, ya'll ask? I do!

I'm in the process of kinda trimmin down a book I've written on how to do this little simple procedure so's the average shade tree mechanic can do it. [I writ the book to sell but never got it off the ground. Just couldn't charge for something that didn't cost me anything.]

The simple explanation for increasing mpg--put vacume on top of the gas whilst in the float bowl. Carb has to be in good shape--best to replace the needle valve and seat. Run a vacume hose from the intake through a small valve--to the fitting on top of the carb float bowl. STart the vehicle with the vacume valve closed and slowly open it up until the engine falters. At that point turn the vacume valve back just a tad. Should about double the mpg. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor should be in good shape. Plugs needs to be set just a mite closer and timing needs to be advanced a tad. For GM distributors remove the two small springs underneath the rotor, affixed to the "dogs" that advance the timing-----stetch'm a tad. This lets the timing advanced quicker after the engine is running.
