I am having some turkey eggs shipped to me. Here is a question for those of you who have done it in the past. What method have you found works best for you?

I once shipped 12 dozen eggs to my uncle in Florida from Ohio, I packed them in styrofoam cartons with foam peanuts between each full carton, and a 3 inch layer of peanuts all around all sides, in a stout cardboard box labeled "fragile" and "this side up", did not label them as "eggs", figured that would just be asking for it!!!

They all made it there without a single one breaking, I sent them Priority Mail from the Post Office.

Wrap each egg well with bubble wrap. Make a nest with crumpled newspaper in your box and pack the eggs in. Top with more crumpled newspaper. You want to pack them in fairly firmly so they won't move around, but not too tight. Tape it closed, then pack this box inside a bigger box and stuff with crumpled newspaper. You can use styrofoam popcorn instead of some of the paper if you have it. I've done it both ways and haven't had an egg break yet, and I have shipped quite a few.

We've had excellent results with our packing and shipping method. Thousands of eggs shipped in 2000 and NOT ONE BROKEN. Only 1 in each of two shipments during all of 2001. A postal worker must have been having a particularly bad day.
