What do I do with this glue trap now?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

All right I've gone and done it now. I got my quilt stuck on my glue trap, or was my glue trap stuck on my quilt? Anywho, IT"S STUCK!!!!! The dumb thing is suppose to catch mice not quilts! Now I have this uguly black glue trap stuck to my lovely peach quilt and I don't know what to do. I tried rubbing alchol, no dice! I don't drink so any other kind of alchol won't be helpful either. I don't swear, so I can't even cuss at the thing, not that it would help either! Anyone got any wonderful ideas, I sure don't! H E L P !!!!!!!!

Oils usually help to cut glues, like olive oil, WD-40, skin-so-soft, baby oil, etc. You could maybe use the oil then get the oil out with Lanolin or Goop. Works on fly trap tapes (get them in my hair alot) Good luck (did you get the mouse?)

my wife found a product that will take it off, i have no idea where to get it. i found it at my grandma's house when she died. we got some on the carpet and it came right off. its called De-Solv-it . its from orange sol inc. out of chandler arizona 602-961-0975. my wife also said mineral spirits works, but she doesn't know what that is.

Goo-Gone, is widely available, said to dissolve most glues. Haven't tried it on sticky-traps though, let us know how it comes out.

Dee, I think the oil would ruin my quilt. At least I'm not ready to take the chance yet. Randy thanks, for the heads up. Did it leave and residue or discoloring on the carpet? I think the mineral spirits (paint thinner) would be a little harsh on the fabric. That seems to be the big hurdle, not harming the fabric. And no I didn't get the mouse! I wonder if he had a nice nap on my quilt though? :}

Hmm. Imagine what the mice must feel like. Their lives, not their quilts are at stake. =)

I gave up on those traps after I got stuck on them instead of the mice. My mice seemed too smart to get on them anyway, they just jumped over them.

Kevin, the idea behind the glue traps is that they get the mice stuck, then you can take them (the directions say more than 1 mile from your house or they will come back) and pry them off to release them; no lives at stake, just a little fur!

At work we had a hamster get stuck. I pulled her off and stuck her right into some pine shavings so she didn't stick to anything else. She did fine and had some babies after that. But I don't know Christine, my mice usually got their little faces stuck in the glue and sufficated. Don't use them anymore.

Stacy, I thought about that but if nothing else works....

I use the glue traps to catch the mice because I don't like them in my house! I don't go around setting them outside for the mice to fall into. But this is my donaim and I refuse to put up with all the damage inflicted by the little critters! :) Anyway, I guess everyone has to decide weather they believe in killing the little rodents, but I just want to know how on earth to get the glue trap off the quilt! I know, I know, if I had used a spring trap this never would have happened. BUT, they like to trap me instead of the mice, so I went to glue traps instead. I do have to admit that I really can't stand the sound of their little cries when they are stuck, but my husband and his hammer usually take care of that! YUCK, man I hate mice in my house!!!

I do not know what carpet cleaners use to get gum off of carpets, I know they spray some kind of freeze on solution and it cracks right off, maybe they can help you if you give them a call and explain your problem. Good luck. Mary

Mybe you could wrap most of the quilt into a big plastic bag, leaving the stuck edge out and stick it into the freezer. Maybe that would freeze up the glue enough to get the trap off and maybe repeated freezings could be used to break off most of the glue.

How about lighter fluid? Mineral spirits might work too! I have cats and they do a fine job on the mice, voles, and shrews. I had a friend who had those traps and she came down in the morning to find four little feet stuck to the trap and no mouse. The thought of a mouse running around on bloody stumps is enough to keep me from using those things.

I think I'll give the freezer idea a try. This time of year I usually have a little extra room in the big one anyway. Thanks for the ideas.
