Plastic easter eggs (they are in the stores NOW), chickens are color blind so the colors don't matter and it is kinda pleasant to see the colors in the nests. You will need to glue some of them together, some just don't fit tite. bonnie in indiana

Our local feedstore has them for 90 cents each; they're called "nest eggs." They are so realistic that dh (dear husband) once gathered one along with the real eggs and later tried to crack it into a bowl. Very nearly broke the bowl before he figured it out!

Bonnie, interesting that you say chickens are color blind. My otherwise gentile roosters attack me when i wear my red warm ups outside. i really have no idea, but that does make me think they do see color.

This is great, and I'm going to have to bookmark it and go back for all the chapters. Seems like it would be good for science lessons for homeschoolers as well.

Apparently birds are not so much colour-blind, as that they are sensitive to colours in different ways than we are, and sometimes to different colours (e.g. ultra-violet). Also, different birds are sensitive to different ranges (and bands) of colour. As an example, a bird might see yellow and red in colour, but only see grey where we'd see orange - different sensitivities, and in bands of colour.

I use the ceramic ones. Found a 'nest' of them at a garage store for a whole dollar. Looks just like the real ones!
