Several posts back I questioned the use of adding NaCl to print developer. The current issue (Jan-Feb) of Photo Techniques has an article by Patrick Gainer on this subject. It can't be read on-line; you'll have to go to the book store. Has anyone read the article yet?

Ricardo, Gainer's article is about additives to *film* developers, not print developers. His experiments were with D-23 and Rodinal, comparing the additives NaCL and sodium ascorbate. From his results, NaCL produced a marginal benefit, if any. Sodium ascorbate, however, clearly reduced grain and increased resolution with Rodinal. Basically, he added 4g/L sodium ascorbate (not ascorbic acid!) to Rodinal 1:50. See Ed's unblinkingeye.com site for more details on Rodinal developers.
