Gallery for posting PAW and pics without a website

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hi Folks. There has been much talk lately about people posting pics and PAWs etc...and alot of people have had problems. At the Leica M Users Group we have set up a separate site for members to post their pics that does not require them already being posted on the web somewhere else. I know that many people don't have website access but would still like to post pics for folks to view, so this was set up to make that possible. Managing your folders is very simple, and uploading a picture from your computer directly to the site takes seconds. The software even allows members to write comments and critique under each of your images. Each member of the Leica M Users Group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MUGers/ automatically receives 30 megabytes of free space to post their portfolios, at zero cost. The gallery site is at http://www.leica-gallery.net/

Now just to make this quite clear; I'm inserting this message to be of help to many people who have had problems posting images for viewing. This is not my trawling for members, we are already 330 plus members which is just fine, but many of our members, including myself, are members of multiple lists, and the www.Leica-Gallery.net allows us to show our images to all lists, not just our own. Yes, you have to be a members of the Leica M Users Group to be able to post your images there, but you may then use your image URLs to show anyone your work and you can upload and image in seconds and remove it in seconds.

I hope this will indeed help many people to more actively participate in Leica discussions and debate, on this list and all the others.

Anyone needing further assistance is welcome to contact me off-list.

Best Wishes,

-Duncan

A nice web-site and an excellent job Duncan: thanks and long life for your site. Alain(21bfr)

Thankyou Alain, that's most kind. One of things we recognised early on was the need for a nice gallery where EVERYONE could post their pics, regardless of whether they had websites or were hyper computer literate. The software at www.leica-gallery.net certainly seems to have solved that problem and we're very happy with the results. Members have posted some great work too. Lot's of fun!!

Duncan,

Thanks for setting that up. I just created a gallery, several folders within that gallery, uploaded a number of images, and moved them to appropriate folders. The interface works very smoothly.

Click long and prosper.

You're most welcome Ralph, glad you like it. It certainly is easy to use. Can't take all the credit for that though. Patrick Kelly who runs the host site did all the software programming and Steve Barbour has been a great help setting that up too. My co-moderator Jack Flesher put in a lot of work as well. Our thanks go out to them all!!

All the best, Duncan

Ralph, once you've got you images uploaded, don't forget to send a message to the list at MUGers@yahoogroups.com and any other lists you're on if you like, letting members know they're there. Just copy and paste the URL (sorry for being basic, but best so absolutely everyone understands) into the message and fire it off. You'll find you usually get quite a response!! You will also receive a visitor report once a day telling you how many people have viewed your images, which ones have been viewed and how many times etc...

All the best, Duncan

Ralph, I just looked at one of your folders "places"

http://www.leica-gallery.net/rbarkerphoto/folder-2457.html

and there are some truly wonderful shots there. Thankyou very much for sharing them. I always amazed by the truly high standards of the greatest percentage of images posted so far.

Thanks again, Duncan

I signed up and posted a few images. I have to say, although I appreciate the offer, the hosting service used is offering extremely low resoltion copies of the images I uploaded, and is displaying them at a very small size as well. I think I will stick to Photo.net at this point.

An excellent suggestion Duncan, and very welcome. I shall post some images as soon as I have a spare mo'.
