These three breeds of chickens lay very dark brown eggs, and I would like to locate some at a reasonable price. So far I've only found hatching eggs, at $35.00 plus shipping for 1/2 dozen eggs! Are these birds really that rare? If anyone knows where I can buy actual baby chicks (I'm too chicken to try to hatch expensive eggs!) I'd be so happy! Here's a link to a picture of some Marans eggs:Thanks,

Elizabeth, have you posted this question on The Poultry Connection Forum? They have some good links there also. Hope this helps, sure sound like neat chickens! LQ

Check the Sandhill Preservation Center. They raise a variety of heirloom breeds. They do have a paper catalog that you can request.

Thanks Little Quacker, I found a guy on The Poultry Connection "buy and sell" board that has the eggs for $38.00/dozen, shipping included. He also sells on Eggbay and has very good feedback. I may wait until I have some Silkies and let them hatch the eggs for me. Thanks Shannon; I haven't had time to check out the Sandhill place yet but I will.

Dear Elizabeth: I too am looking for Marans chickens or chick. I am willing to try hatching out eggs. Let me know of your success with this breed as I have been facinated with it for awhile. I will also try the answers you received. Thanks, Susan
