Toshiba 2700 - update available for SVCD standard?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread |
Hi I have a Toshiba 2700. Currently it does not support the SVCD format. I recently came into possession of a number of SVCDs I'd like to be able to play on my DVD player. Does anyone know of a software/hardware update that can be applied to the DVD player so that it supports the SVCD format? Toshiba and their support centres are simply not forthcoming.Any help would be appreciated

Unfortunately, you will have to get such an update from Toshiba yourself. I honestly doubt Toshiba will ever care whether your player ever plays SVCD or not and I doubt they'll fix the problem. I'm not trying to be mean, but the best advice I can give you is not to buy Toshiba or any brand of DVD player in the future that doesn't support SVCD, CD-R, etc. www.vcdhelp.com has a DVD player compatibility list that tells which players support which formats and which media types. I know it stinks to have a player that won't play your discs, but companies such as Apex make players that retail for about $99 or less that will play VCD, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW and sometimes MP-3, so you could always bite the bullet and buy another player. My best friend used to have a Toshiba but he got mad that it wouldn't play SVCD or anything on CD-R, so he bought a Sampo instead. Only when the consumer stops buying DVD players that don't support SVCD and CD-R/W media will companies like Toshiba decide to provide compatibility for these things.

Are those SVCDs pressed or CD-R?? I'm asking because while we can create our own SVCDs on CD-R/RW, pressed SVCDs are very rare. If they are where did you get them??
