National Geographic is one of those great coffee table magazines you display at home. When family and guests drop by it provides a somewhat superficial feeling that your house is well-read. I, like many closet responders to this question, seldom read National Geographic but admire the peerless Pulitzer Prize winning photography in each issue. No magazine does a better job in conveying culture geology and archeology like Nat Geographic. QED
