In following the links on a previous animal rights post about the idiotic attitudes of an overeducated fool concerning poultry rights, I landed on the United Poultry concerns "magazine" and read an article about Northwest Airlines refusal to carry baby chicks as mail. There was a recomendation to readers to compliment NWA concerning their decision,along with an email address. I utilized this information to inform NWA I will never use their services again as long as they have this policy in place. I highly recommend that any readers that order chicks by mail and rely on air shipments to email NWA of their displeasure with this policy. Lets utilize the animal rights wackos information to defeat their assinine agenda. I should point out that those readers living in Alaska rely exclusively on air shipments of baby chicks and Northwest covers much of the area chicks are shipped from. Lets bombard NWA with emails until they change their policy.

When you send your e-mail to Norhtwest Airlines they will ask you for your waybill number. I used the one they had for an example. It worked well.(012-12345678) Hope this helps everybody.

I sent an e-mail to Northwest Airlines and got the following response.

"Your information is incorrect. We are no longer accepting live chickens for transport as mail. We are accepting them as live animal cargo, so they ride with the other live animals and not as mail."

It sounds like they are still transporting the chicks. I guess I am confused now.

Sorry about the email address or lack thereof. Thanks Bob for posting it. NWA will not accept chicks from the Postoffice according to my information. They apparently will accept live animal freight shipments at their loading docks. This means a longer haul for hatcheries which used to ship through the nearest postal facility. The recieving end then has to pick up the "freight" at the NWA terminal thus totally eliminating the delivery by mail we have become used to. For me this is an 80 mile round trip to get the "freight". Also freight rates are much more expensive than USPS rates. In addition to the extra cost and inconvenience I find it exremely frustrating that NWA can tell the USPS what mail it will or will not carry. Why cannot the USPS dictate that they take all mail or no mail?
