David do not despair God will make a way. My church started a year ago at that time we were non denominational and we met in a Mexican Restraunt. The owner of the restraunt is president of our steward board. We were so grateful and our Director of Church Growth and Development came and loved the space. We became A.M.E in August, 2001. Today we have two worship services. Our 10 A.m service is in a nursing home and our 2 P.M service is in an Art Center. It has worked out beautifully for those in the nursing home have joined our church. And the second service is more for families and young people. We are just focusing on evangelism and raising leaders in the church. We have been in prayer and we know God will guide us. I am grateful that your pastor is resourceful enough to find a space that is not expensive. That is good stewardship. We A.M.E's are resourceful people. And as long as we have God, jesus christ, the Holy Spirit and our call to worship. It will be alright. Stay in touch and give my regards to your pastor.

Would that be Pastor "Edward" Green? An older gentleman witha strong Cambridge accent?

Yes Bro Jerryl that is Rev Green. He has planted a church in Malden, Malden Mission, where he now lives. He is the former pastor of Bethel AME - Lynn and comes out of our church, St Paul AME Cambridge Bro Burkett, I think you have an excellent idea. In the the Boston- Hartford District there are several new churches that are getting started. The ones that I am aware of are in Brockton, Malden, Worcester and Waterbury (I think) CT. None of these churches are in adequate quarters yet. I am not sure what plans are in place to help finance buildings or even rented space. We have a Quarterly Conference next week, perhaps I can get some info from my Presiding Elder. We continue to keep them in our prayers. God Bless Bro Bob

Brother Burkett does your conference have a Church Growth and Expansion director? My conference the Pacific Northwest does and it has really helped us tremendously having that support and someone to mentor us. Also Bishop Bryant has also been instrumental in finding a space for us to meet. The nursing home has a huge room with a piano and it is free. The art center is beautiful and the room we use faces the mountains and every month there is a new exhibit. It also has a kitchen. The Art Center is thrilled we are there on Sundays for now the building is being used on Sundays. It is very inexpensive and has a parking lot. You might want to suggest to your Pastor to look at renting from a school, rec center. Another church in the afternoon, art center, hosptial meeting rooms. When you start praying about it, it is amazizng how God provides for his children. Our Church Growth Director Dr. Carenter has been with us through the whole process, I hope your conference has a church growth director. Keep us posted.
